Zhirovichi is a village in Slonim region (10 km from Slonim). It`s near to the river Schara. For the first time Zhirovichi is mentioned in documents between 1493 and 1495 as possession of A.Soltana who has constructed the church on the place where the image of God's Mother appeared in 1470 according to the legend. The settlement began to form near the church soon the monastery springed up (first it`s mentioned in 1587). Original wooden constructions were not kept, since XVII century the complex of stone constructions has been created on their place.

In the end of XVII century Zhirovichi monastery was considered as the richest in Belarus and Lithuania and used among members of the Uniate Church the same popularity as Chenstohovski monastery among Catholics.

Building of temples in Zhirovichi lasted until the middle of XIX century.

By this time Uspenski cathedral, Epiphany church and Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, a three-storeyed monastery with seminary, cells, refectory and numerous subsidiary buildings formed one complex. There was a small printing house. Behind a fencing of a monastery there was a garden and ponds on a small river Vihne (inflow Schara).

The fourth temple in Zhirovichi is a wooden St. George church which is located on an old cemetery it`s not far from the monastery.

Thus, a plenty of architectural monuments of various typological groups were kept in Zhirovichi.
